TESSA

Tessa is a sweet, adorable female German Shepherd of about 6 years of age.  This wonderful girl spent 7 months in a shelter, and we rescued her on December 31st, 2021 - the day she was scheduled to be euthanized.

Tessa is a happy, confident, well-balanced girl who loves life and people.  She gets attached to her person very quickly and follows them everywhere, wanting to be right next to them, pretty much a “velcro” dog  - she is one of those dogs more into her people than other pets. Tessa has no problem being alone if the owner needs to go out - she is not destructive, doesn't bark, is good alone in the yard, doesn't try to escape, doesn't dig, and doesn't try to jump a fence.

Tessa walks well on leash - she doesn’t pull much, and with some basic training she will be a perfect dog.  She is always happy to see people and might jump on them to say “Hi” in a friendly way. Tessa definitely loves car rides: for the first few minutes she’ll be very excited, move around, try to come to the front seat, but then lies down and remains calm.

She did great at the groomer’s and loves to get pampered. She also did great during her vet exam, and kept giving kisses to the doctor. Tessa loves toys and is very gentle with them, as if careful to not destroy them. She especially likes balls and playing fetch: she picks up the ball, brings it back, and drops it. Tessa enjoys going for daily walks and even hikes, if the owner is pretty active. She is housebroken and if she has to potty she will whine a little, to let you know that she needs to go outside.

Here is what her Foster Mom wrote about her:
"Tessa is always happy - loves to follow you around, loves to give kisses and has been great with older kids (10 yr. olds). She knows “Sit” and is practicing “Stop” and “Stay”. She is pretty good with “Drop it” and releases balls gently; she is not protective of toys or her food bowl, sits nicely for the leash to be put on and loves to fetch, but after a couple of throws she likes to lie down for a good chewing session (if she breaks the ball, she doesn’t eat the pieces). Tessa did well during a bath, although she isn’t fond of water  and also did well getting a pedicure (with lots of treats) - she doesn’t realize how big she is! She’s a sure-footed explorer and it’s entertaining to watch her squeeze through small spaces and walk on obstacles. She’s never tried to jump a wall, though. Her nose investigates EVERYTHING, even catching scents in the air. She’s good around people's food – she’ll sniff what you’re eating but walks away and doesn’t beg. By about 8pm she’s down for the count and sleeps well through the night (sometimes she snores!). She’s used to going in her crate during the day for a couple of hours, as needed. Tessa reacts towards unfamiliar dogs during walks and seems to show a prey drive towards some small animals, so a home with no cats is recommended. She’d benefit from an experienced owner with whom to work on forming reliable obedience and desensitizing her to her triggers. Tessa’s ideal home would have to have a secure yard to play fetch, run zoomies, and roll around in the grass.

Tessa is an absolutely wonderful dog and someone will be very fortunate to have her in their life. She is located in Los Angeles.--
